The African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI)
Learn more about ABI here.

The African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) has been established to support the growth of life science research across the African continent. With a focus on providing bioinformatics expertise, infrastructure, and resources, the ABI is laying the groundwork to address critical challenges in African health, agriculture, and the environment. Its work is aligned with broader continental development priorities, including the Sustainable Development Goals. Through innovative bioinformatics research, capacity-building initiatives, collaboration, and the development of practical, data-driven tools, the ABI aims to positively impact the health and well-being of Africa’s people, flora, and fauna.

The African Open Science Platform (AOSP)
Learn more about AOSP here.

The AOSP aims to position African scientists at the forefront of data-intensive science by fostering interactivity and creating opportunities. It builds efficiencies of scale, amplifies impact through a shared purpose and voice, and engages in global efforts to address continental and global challenges. The AOSP enables collective planning and practice to:

  • Drive alignment, collaboration, and cooperation between existing initiatives.
  • Identify critical gaps and set priorities for action.
  • Design and deliver activities to respond to those gaps and priorities.
  • Mobilize existing resources and initiate new projects in pursuit of the Platform’s aims.
  • Enhance communication, outreach, and advocacy efforts.

Through these efforts, the AOSP is shaping a future of collective action and impactful collaboration that addresses both continental and global challenges, while fostering sustainable solutions for data-intensive science.
